On December 2, 2003, New
Life 91.9 listeners Laurie and Scott Dudley gave
birth to identical twin sons. Born at 28 weeks, the
oldest twin, Tyler, passed away at seven days old. In
Tyler’s last hours of life, Scott and Laurie held him and read
to him. When they read, Tyler’s vital signs improved, a
tremendous comfort to Scott and Laurie, who could do very
little for their son.
Tyler’s younger brother, Braden, fought for his life for the
next four months. Miraculously, Braden overcame tremendous
odds and left CMC’s Neonatal Unit in Scott and Laurie’s arms
105 days after his birth.
In honor and memory of Tyler, Scott and Laurie Dudley
courageously collect children’s books for children in
Charlotte hospitals. They deliver the books to
hospitalized children on Christmas Eve. Books are
delivered to the tiniest of babies, to children, and to
teenagers. Each book includes Scripture and a
handwritten message of hope and encouragement from its donor.
Parents in desperate situations find joy and comfort in
reading to their child. The new books make a wonderful and
unexpected present for children facing Christmas in the
confines of a hospital room.
This year, New Life 91.9
is partnering with Tyler’s Tree to collect books for these
precious children. Through a simple book, you can bring
hope to parents and children who will spend this Christmas in
the hospital. If you would like to participate, please
purchase a new book written for a child or a teenager.
When purchasing a book, think in terms of your child.
Think of a book your child loved. Think of a book that
would encourage your child or that made your child laugh.
Think of a cherished book that you read countless times to
your child. If possible, allow your child to choose a
book for a very special child. Then, gather your family
and write a personal note to the child who will receive your
book on Christmas Eve.
